We were recently stunned by the assassination of a great American and Christian-Charlie Kirk. Charlie was clearly murdered because of his multiplying popularity among young people as he debated politely, but firmly, with them, in his advocacy for the truth of Scripture and the founding of the United States. In so doing, he was a danger to the radical leftists who propose and strongly advocate for the destruction of our Constitutional Republic and of Biblical truth. He was a danger to them in the sense that as he spread the truth, he convinced many of the young people to look past the one-sided propaganda that they had been fed by much of society and their professors and contemplate the true facts. He challenged them to think, and how to think, as opposed to their biased “education”, which told them what to think. In so doing, he was persuading multitudes of young people, convincing them of the truth, and in so doing causing the radical left to lose supporters, votes, and elections. This they could not tolerate.
If God, is sovereign, which Charlie believed, and which is true, why did God allow him to be assassinated in the prime of his life, and leave behind a young wife and two dear children? Much has been, and will be, written analyzing this situation. Bottom line: we may not know the entire truth until we also go into eternity. Isaiah, considered by many the greatest of the Hebrew prophets, quoted God when He said in the 55th chapter of his prophecy 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Depending on your theological persuasion, God either ordained or allowed the assassination of Charlie. In our finite minds, we will not always understand the reasons behind the things that happen.
We can however, at least partially, see what God is doing with the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk. The numbers continue to grow, but as of this writing, it has been reported that over 60,000 contacts have been made to Turning Point, USA (Charlie’s organization) for membership or founding of new chapters in campuses all across our nation.
In an upcoming article, we will examine the validity of some of Charlie’s claims/positions. Meanwhile, let us pray diligently for Ericka and the children, as well as the ministry of Turning Point. In a popular verse in Romans 8, the apostle Paul wrote “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Notice it does not say all things are good, some are unbelievably wicked. But God takes the evil and uses it for His good purposes. Charlie was “called according to His purpose”, and God will continue to use his martyrdom to bring about good.
