Faith.
There are two aspects of the August 13 Republican primaries.
First, humanly speaking, those of us with a representative, constitutional viewpoint and a Biblical worldview, were very disappointed by the results. Once again, the Republican branch of the Madison Uniparty succeeded in returning most of Robin Vos’ minions to the November elections.
The reason why our legislature is divided into geographical assembly districts is so that the people of each district can choose who represents them in Madison for the next two years.
When the candidate’s own party spends over $400k in half-truths and lies against them, it is extremely difficult to overcome. Unfortunately, too many people are uninformed politically and votes are affected by this constant barrage of propaganda. Also, too many people vote for a candidate who often was good in Madison but has long since been corrupted by the Swamp.
They have no clue about the change that came about under pressure of the Republican leadership in Madison. “He’s a nice guy” or “I knew her dad” are not sufficient reasons to vote for a particular candidate. And when a principled conservative does get elected, they will frequently be denied/removed from committee assignments, have their staff taken away and heavily campaigned against next election by their own party. Where is the equal playing field where the citizens of each individual district fairly choose their own representative, unimpeded by the party bosses?
The Bible gives guidelines on how political officials are to govern. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy that we are to pray for them “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” and to the church at Rome that the purpose of government is to reward the good and punish the evil. This is not the type of government we get when the officials are obligated to and owe their loyalty to a corrupt party leadership instead of the people of their district.
I am thankful to the principled candidates who ran/are running and for the many who are working feverishly for them, including the editors of this paper and several county Republican parties, including Waupaca.
The second aspect, spiritually speaking, is that God always has been/is/and always will be sovereign. The results of the election were no surprise to Him! God has often, throughout history, used ungodly rulers to carry out His will. There is an adage of politics that says “People get the type of government they deserve”. How long do we expect God to bless a nation that murders millions of its unborn and celebrates sexual perversion?
Politics will never save our nation, only the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ can and will do that. But would we rather be sharing the Gospel under a freedom of religion (NOT “from”) and moral society, as envisioned and established by the founding fathers, or under an ungodly system when Christians are mocked, silenced and even jailed? Our first vice-president and second president, John Adams, said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Does that tell you anything?
