The atmosphere at Johnny Manhattans is one of the best around. As soon as you arrive you feel like you can’t be bothered by anything. The only decision you’ll need to make is which of the many popular entrées to order for dinner. The various dining rooms are beautiful, and the lounge is made for relaxing (and lounging). Anyone familiar with the owner Nancy knows she’s all about décor. If you’re in the area during Christmas, you’ll be in for a real Christmas time dining experience. The wall sized wine display case shows off the wide assortment of wines available. As per expectations, we started off with drinks from the bar. I had a brandy old fashion sweet and was not disappointed.
The trick to an old fashion in my opinion is the perfect blend of Bitters and alcohol. I don’t want a glass of brandy and I don’t want a glass of Bitters. The mix was very good. Tina had the Cougar Bait Martini made with Pearl Citrus Vodka and pomegranate juice. Again, the mix was very good. We started off with the Crab Stuffed Avocado served with a sweet chili sauce that I would certainly order again. We are crab cake people so when we saw this twist to the traditional appetizer, we couldn’t help but try it. We generally don’t both order steaks, but the waitress talked Tina into the Large Filet and it was perfect. The steak was charred on the outside and perfectly medium-rare on the inside. My porterhouse was excellent as well. Many steakhouses over-season the steak but mine was perfect. The salads were what we’ve come to expect in Wisconsin.
The dressings were homemade and very good. I’m a 1000 island guy and it was delightfully thick. Tina had a nice balsamic vinaigrette. I had an interesting side of cheesy hash browns and Tina had the traditional baked potato. For dessert we had the “Killer Chocolate Cake”, even though we were both just absolutely stuffed. We thought we’d take it home, but it turned out there was none left – I’m heading to the gym now. See you next month!
