By – Rolf Lindgren: Winston Churchill was old. He was very old. It was 1963 and Winston Churchill was still in Parliament. He was almost 90 years old. He had first been elected to Parliament in 1900, when Queen Victoria was still on the throne.
Recently, Winston had some health setbacks. He had a severe stroke in 1953 and had to resign as Prime Minister in 1955 because of it. In 1962, Winston had a terrible fall and fractured his vertebrae. Then he had another fall and another stroke, plus a blood clot. But Winston was still alive.
One day in 1963 as old Winston Churchill hobbled out of Parliament, two young members of Parliament (MPs) were walking behind him, gossiping about Winston’s poor health.
One of the young MPs said to the other; “I hear the old fellow has gone quite gaga”.
Winston turned around and exclaimed to them; “Yes, and I hear he has gone quite deaf, too!”
